BITS Pilani-supported Startup Develops Portable Eye Screening Device

With a vision to make early eye disease detection simpler and more accessible, Tishya’s Medical Device Development Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is developing affordable healthcare technology for people across different communities. Founded by Dr. Ravi Kiran Manapuram, the startup has developed IXanner®, a portable and cost-effective device that helps in the early detection of serious eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration.

Many people, especially in rural and underserved areas, lose their eyesight simply because diseases are detected too late. Keeping this challenge in mind, the team designed IXanner® to support quick and mass eye screening, making early diagnosis easier and more affordable.

Supported by the BITS BioCyTiH Foundation at BITS Pilani, the innovation has already reached seven countries, including the USA and the UK. The startup now generates an annual revenue of around ₹3.5 crore through its national and international operations.

Beyond business growth, the real impact lies in its social benefit. The technology is expected to reduce preventable blindness by nearly 60% through timely screening and intervention. With seven patents filed and one granted, the startup continues to strengthen India’s growing medical technology ecosystem while improving lives through accessible healthcare innovation.
