The research team identified the bottleneck sub-blocks in the 5G crypto algorithm that uses AES-GCM. They redesigned AES-GCM algorithm with multiple variants, each working on a different objective. Each variant focuses on metrics such as performance (throughput/latency) or power savings. They also identified the use of right variant for a given traffic pattern, which would help with 5G slicing design. All the hardware kernel variants are designed and implemented using Vitis HLS framework for FPGA hardware (XCU106)
