In manufacturing cement, a combination of inter-related factors like social, technical and economic considerations play important role in selecting the size of the plant. Although the large scale manufacturing offers a number of advantages, there is a growing realisation of the demerits of large size cement plants. The vertical shaft kiln technology developed by RRL, Jorhat was typically suitable for setting up of Mini-cement plant. The corporation has licensed the technology to more than 50 entrepreneurs in the country who has met up their plant successfully and able to meet partially the large demand of cement in the country.
