The invention relates to new substituted 6/8((di(hetero-2- ylmethyl)amino)methyl)-7-hydroxyl-4-(methylthio)-2-oxd-2H- chromene-3- carbonitrile of the general formula I and their ion complexes, salts which may be used potentially as fluorescent probes  in chemical and biological sciences such as cell imaging applications, diagnostics, fluorescent tags, pharmaceuticals and other useful  applications, and a process of preparing said new compounds. More particularly, the invention relates to 6/8((di(hetero-2-  ylmethyl)amino)methyl)-7-hydroxyl-4-(methylthio)-2-oxo-2/-/-chromene-3- carbonitrile, processes for preparing the said compounds  and their uses as fluorescent probes for selective staining of nucleolus of biqlogical_cells_(such_as animal cells, plant cells) in  fluorescence-based imaging and/or analysis in fixed or live cell. The compounds are prepared by reacting the ligand bis(pyridin-2-  ylmethyl)amine in HCHO and_organic solvents.
