IN267662: A process for making anode-supported planar solid oxide fuel cell
The invention provides a novel process for the fabrication of anode-supported single cell of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) in planar configuration that is based on development of porous anode supported half cell consisting of a thin and gas-tight zirconia, more specifically, 8 mole% Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte layer over porous nickel oxide-8 mole% Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (NiO-YSZ) anode substrate of dimension up to 5cm x 5cm x 1.5mm for square geometry or up to 5cm diameter and 1.5mm thickness for circular geometry followed by development of 40 to 60µm of a porous strontium doped Lanthanum Manganite (LSM) cathode layer over the YSZ electrolyte layer to form the single cell. Using the cells thus fabricated a current density as high as l.OA/cm2 can be achieved at an operating temperature of 800°C under a cell voltage of 0.7 V.
