This invention is a process for the preparation of epoxides from, alkenes using glycoluril as organic promoter. An efficient heterogeneous catalytic system is developed for the epoxidation of various alkenes using glycoluril an organic promoter, manganese sulphate, sodium bicarbonate, tbutyl alcohol, water as solvent and environment friendly hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. Accordingly, Styrene oxide is prepared kilogram scale using heterogeneous catalytic system with 98-99% conversion and >98% purity.
