The invention disclosed a process for the synthesis of aromatic carbamates comprises of reacting the amine with dialkyl carbonate in the presence of the binary or ternary mixed metal oxide catalyst at temperatures in the range of 100 to 2200C for the period in the range of 1 to 15 hrs to obtain corresponding aromatic carbamate. In one embodiment of the invention, the process for the synthesis of aromatic carbamates is optionally carried out in the presence of a solvent.
