Zinc bromine redox flow battery has an electrolyte, which is composed of a solution containing zinc bromide, sodium chloride as supporting electrolyte, quaternary ammonium bromide compound as a complexing agent and an organic solvent, which is selected  from groups of solvents containing nitrile as a functional group (NOS). The concentration of the NOS to that of a complexing agent, single and mixed compound is about 0.6 to 1.2 and 0.2 to 0.6 molar ratios respectively, consequent to which high performance; improved efficiency and low maintenance are obtained.
