The National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health (NIRRH) is dedicated towards addressing the various issues of reproductive health in accordance with the national needs and priorities. NIRRH have taken up several new initiatives to address issues of reproductive health. Attempts are being made to identify genetic and physiological determinants predisposing individuals to testicular, ovarian and endometrial pathologies associated with infertility. NIRRH is focusing on the discovery of efficacious targets of anti-HIV therapy, development of new indigenous, efficacious and safe microbicides against HIV/STIs/RTIs. The National Centre for Preclinical Reproductive and Genetic Toxicology is paying way for discovery of safe and potent drugs. Institute is also striving to derive and characterize embryonic stem cell lines with a great resource for therapeutic applications from human and non-human primates. Institute has excellent state-of-art facilities for research involving microarrays, proteomics, bioinformatics, nucleic acid sequencing, flow cytometry, electron microscopy, and confocal microscopy. Clinical research team at NIRRH actively participates in clinical trials for assessment of safety, efficacy and acceptability of various contraceptive methods and microbicides. NIRRH is also involved in development of clinical, operational guidelines and information, education and communication material on priority areas for use in the national programs for reproductive health.
