The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is a not-for-profit organization set up in 1956. The NIXI was set up to work towards peering of ISPs for the purpose of routing domestic internet traffic within the country, resulting in better quality of service and reduced bandwidth charges. The NIXI is managed and operated on a neutral basis, in line with global best practices. The NIXI was also responsible for the creation of INRegistry, and also manages the national internet registry of the country and delegates internet protocol addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) and autonomous system numbers to its affiliates.
