The National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research is a premier institute of India for research on exotic and emerging pathogens of animals. NIHSAD is an independent institute of ICAR. The institute has contributed significantly by detecting many animal diseases of exotic origin and preventing them from entering our country. The major objectives of the institute are: 1. To carry out basic & applied research on exotic, emerging and re-emerging diseases of animals. 2. To develop competency for diagnosis & control of exotic/emerging diseases of animals. 3. To create & update a repository and data bank on exotic/emerging pathogens 4. To develop skills in biorisk management & train manpower in the areas of biosafety, biosecurity and biocontainment.
