The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance in the form of 5 yr fellowships to students from Scheduled Caste (SC) categories, as notified by the Central Government to pursue higher studies such as M.Phil. and Ph.D. at Indian Universities/ Institutions. There are 2000 slots for SC every year for all the subjects. 3% fellowships are reserved for Physically Handicapped candidates belonging to SC categories as per provision of the Govt. of India.Eligibility: i) The candidate should belong to SC/ST and should have passed the passed the Post Graduate Examination in concerned subject.ii) The Candidate must be registered for M.Phil./Ph.D.Fellowship amount: For JRF/SRF, it amounts to Rs.25000/28000 p.m. plus House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per norms. The Contingency is Rs.10000 p.a. for initial two yrs and subsequently Rs.20500 p.a. for Humanities & Social Sciences while Rs.12000 and Rs.25000 in the respective categories for Science. The Fellowship shall be tenable for 5 yrs. Continuation of the fellowship every year for selected candidates is based on satisfactory performance as recommended by the competent authorities.
