The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) now Ministry of Education (MoE) of the Government of India launched the innovative technology development program IMPACTing Research, INnovation and Technology (IMPRINT) to convert research findings into workable technology (processes and products). The Honourable President and Prime Minister of India introduced the first iteration of IMPRINT in November 2015. The following edition, known as IMPRINT II, was introduced in April 2018 as a collaborative effort between MHRD and the Department of Science & Technology (DST) (under the direction of the Science and Engineering Research Board, SERB), motivated by the broad enthusiasm and usefulness. Similar to its predecessor, IMPRINT II (IMPRINT IIA/B) requested creative idea-based translational project applications within the same ten broad technical fields that promised prototype development and field testing in a specific topic.
The main applicant or the Principal Investigator (PI) should be an Indian citizen. The PI must hold a regular academic/research position (Faculty member or Scientist or Scientific Officer) of Centrally Funded Technical Institution (CFTI), MoE funded Central University (CU) or MoE funded Higher Education Institution (HEI) engaged in research and development (R&D) in engineering and technology (E&T), having at least 4 years of regular service left before superannuation as on date of submission of the proposal. Only one PI is allowed for a given project. Scientists selected for project funding under IMPRINT IIA and IMPRINT IIB are not eligible to apply for funding under IMPRINT IIC as the PI.
