Project Overview
The study aims to compare the quantitative changes in nasal nitric oxide production during humming and Brahmari Pranayama (BR) practice. It aims to dissect potential differences in nitric oxide production during normal humming and BR, and compare the benefits produced in plasma NO levels and modulating vascular tone. BR is believed to be more effective due to resonance-mediated increase in sound vibration, resulting in elevated NO. This endogenous synthesis could be a powerful tool in controlling peripheral vascular tone. BR may have equal or higher effects on the para nasal sinuses and airway epithelium, evoking a better NO response. The study aims to determine if regular practice of BR may improve peripheral vascular resistance, as the therapeutic benefits of increased nitric oxide in improving pulmonary function are not yet known.
