Project Overview
This project has helped us to streamline the lactation counseling services in our hospital. Around 20,685 mothers including 1126 primi mothers were counseled during the study period. An in-house hospital health education system has been established for this project which will serve for future health education programs including lactation counseling. A video has been prepared in the local language Tamil including information regarding the advantages of exclusive breastfeeding, correct position and attachment, common lactation problems and disadvantages of formula and bottle feeding. ppropriate animations, interviews, role plays and audio and video clippings for promoting exclusive breastfeeding have been incorporated in this video. This video can serve as a common health education tool for all maternity and pediatrics hospitals of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry. The project also had a positive impact on health care personnel towards exclusive breastfeeding.
