Project Overview

The study of proton-induced reactions to produce medically significant radio-isotopes has gained popularity in recent decades, with applications in medical physics, diagnostic purposes, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and cell anomalies detection and treatment. Radionuclides are crucial in nuclear medicine, with their choice based on their decay properties. The quality and availability of a radionuclide are essential for its broad application, and the production data, such as nuclear reaction cross section data, are crucial for optimizing production routes. The present work aims to present the excitation function of proton-induced reactions on various target materials, focusing mainly on the production of medical isotopes such as 99Mo, 99mTc, 61Cu, 67Cu, 66Ga, 67Ga, 76Br, and 77Br. The study also discusses uncertainty propagation and covariance analysis. Almost all radionuclides studied are PET candidates, which are used in diagnostic processes and organ malfunction analysis. The 100Mo(p,2n)99mTc reaction is one of the proposed processes for direct production of 99mTc. The relative importance of possible contributing reactions and their contribution to total activity and patient dose can be theoretically estimated and directly applicable in medical diagnostics.99mTc radionuclide is used in various applications, including SPECT, bone-scan, sentinel-node identification, cardiac ventriculography, functional brain imaging, myocardial perfusion imaging, immunoscintigraphy, and blood pool labelling. Bromine for radiopharmaceutical synthesis holds advantages due to its high chemical versatility and electrophilic substitution, making it a suitable proliferation marker in cases of local DNA synthesis rate.
