Climate change and the limitations of fossil fuels have led to the development of green and sustainable energy alternatives like solar, wind, and geothermal sources. To meet the growing energy demands of the growing population, an efficient electrical energy storage system (EES) is necessary. Rechargeable batteries, such as sodium ion batteries, are significant due to their environmentally friendly nature, flexibility, and high conversion efficiency. These batteries have made significant progress in achieving high energy density close to lithium ion batteries. Silicate ion batteries (SIBs) are an effective substitute due to their rich natural abundance, faster charging capability, and wider temperature operability. To establish the commercialization of SIBs, extensive efforts should be made to develop economically viable and energy-efficient electrode materials. Sodium-containing layered oxides, with a general chemical formula NaxMO2, exhibit a typical structure consisting of edge-sharing MO6 and NaO6 octahedral layers. The synergistic effect of these elements enhances the capacity, cyclability, and stability of the materials. To test the hypothesis, high-performing layered oxides (P2-Na2/3Ni1/3Mn2/3O2, P2-NaFe0.4Ni0.3Mn0.3O2, and P2-Na2/3Ni1/3Mn1/2Ti1/6O2) and polyanion cathode materials (Na3V2(PO4)2FO2 and Na2Fe2(SO4)3) will be selected. Recently, binary, ternary, or quaternary layered oxides have shown improvements in SIBs.
