Project Overview

Heusler alloys are gaining interest due to their exceptional thermoelectric and spintronic properties, which could be used in spintronic applications like magnetic sensors, magnetic memory, and spin valves. These alloys come in various subclasses with unique characteristics, and their diversity allows for the discovery of topological non-trivial band structures similar to HgTe. Tens of half-Heusler compounds show inverted band structures. Topological superconductors, closely related to topological insulators, have been studied for their potential applications. High pressure can enhance the temperature of bulk superconductor without chemically introducing extra electron carriers. The optimal temperature is achieved when the long-range magnetic order vanishes. The current proposal focuses on studying topological superconductivity in Huesler alloys and understanding the origin of this unusual phenomenon under pressure effect.
