Project Overview

C-H functionalization is an efficient technique in organic synthesis because it reduces various pre- functionalization steps. Among various C-H functionalization, C-H borylation got special attention. Borylated compounds are the key intermediate in many transformation reactions. Now, Iridium catalysts are frequently used in C-H borylation reaction. High cost and non-reusable nature of iridium catalysts are the major drawbacks of those processes. On the other hand, indole, coumarin and benzodiazepine are very important heterocyclic molecules those contains enumerable biological and pharmaceutical properties and also found in many core structures of natural products. Functionalization of indole at C-2, C-3 positions, coumarin at C-3, C-4 positions and 1,4-benzodiazepin at C-3 position are little bit easy and well reported. Functionalization at C-4, C-5 position of indole, C-5, C-6 positions of coumarin and C-8 and C-9 positions of benzodiazepin are bit difficult and also very less reports are available in literature. In this project, PI will try to synthesize heterogeneous, easily separable and reusable iridium catalyst to solve the aforesaid limitations associated with iridium catalysis. First, Graphene Oxide (GO) will be synthesized. Then ferrite nanoparticles will doped on GO surface for making GO magnetic [Fe3O4@GO]. To make the iridium catalyst heterogeneous and reusable, the appropriate ligand will be attached with the Fe3O4@GO and apply in the reaction. During reaction, Fe3O4@GO bonded ligand will from Iridium complex and after the reaction, the whole complex will be separated by external magnet. Then it will be washed and reused in another set of reaction. PI will try to borylate at C-4, C-5 position of indoles, C-5, C-6 positions of coumarins and C-9 position of 1,4-benzodiazepines
