About

College of Veterinary Science, Guwahati is a constituent college under Assam Agricultural University. It’s a premier institute of NER established in 1948. The state-of-the-art infrastructure developed under the Hub has so far been utilized by students and teachers of not only the host institute but also many other institutes of the state for skill development and to carry out research in frontier areas of molecular biology and biotechnology. In phase II, the Hub envisages carrying forward its agenda with focused research on selected areas of local importance, conducting hands-on trainings on tools and techniques in microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology & bioinformatics, online/offline lectures on recent advancement in these areas, and outreach programs targeting entrepreneurship development and farmers’ training, more specifically in relevant areas of livestock production and animal husbandry besides strengthening ongoing academic and research activities of the host institute

Achievements

The porcine reproductive problems cause huge economic losses to the pig farmers i n terms of stillbirth, mummified fetus, embryonic death and infertility. It becomes very difficult to control the disease conditions if the causative agent is a virus as the antibiotic therapy does not work except reducing the secondary infection.
