Project Overview
The Born series methods (traditional Born series and convergent Born series) iteratively obtain solution to the Helmholtz equation and thus are computationally intensive techniques. It is desirable to develop efficient computational frameworks so that Born series algorithms may be applied to estimate photoacoustic (PA) field distribution belonging to a large computational domain (mimicking a tissue). In case of a highly acoustically heterogeneous medium, multiple scattering of acoustic waves may occur and hence may significantly modify the PA field distribution. So far no method is available to estimate the PA field distribution inside such a medium. This project attempts to address this issue by incorporating conventional parallel and graphics processing unit based computation techniques. It may be mentioned here that such a study is of great fundamental interest and also may find many applications in biomedical fields (ultrasonics, optics etc.) as well as in other areas.
