Project Overview

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), by 2025 nearly 2 billion people may not have enough drinking water to satisfy their daily needs. One of the possible solutions to this problem is desalination. But this process requires external power supply. Solar desalination becomes an attractive alternative for remote and rural areas where, grid electricity is not available. Solar still is widely used in solar desalination. This process removes impurities such as salts and heavy metals as well as eliminates microbial organisms. But the productivity of solar still is very less. Therefore, this project is mooted to develop, study and analysis such solar stills with various modifications to enhance its productivity and to purify the ground water
