Project Overview
In fishes, the onset of puberty and reproductive function are controlled by coordinated actions ofregulators involving brain- pituitary-gonadal (BPG) axis.During the past decade, numerous knownand novel neuropeptides have been implicated in control of GnRH and gonadotropes in thepituitary.Phoenixin (PNX),a novel peptide recently identified by bioinformatics, is widely expressedat the tissue level and confirmed to be the ligand for the orphan receptor GPR173. Its mature peptide PNX20 has emerged as a novel regulator for reproductive function inmammals.However,little is known for the comparative aspects of PNX, especially in fish. Recently wehave identified phoenixin and its receptor GPR173 gene in rohu. So present study aimed at cloningand characterization of phoenixin along with its receptor gene in rohu and catla and functionalanalysis of phoenixin peptide as well as their interactive participations with other neuropeptides inthe BPG axis for controlling the reproduction
