About
Electroless nickel (EN) coatings have emerged as a valuable technique, particularly for improving surface properties such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and hardness. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), a widely used thermoplastic in industries ranging from automotive to consumer electronics, is particularly suited to benefit from these properties. However, while ABS provides excellent mechanical properties and ease of manufacturing, its surface characteristics remain relatively limited, especially in high-performance environments. With this context, in the proposed proposal, an effort will be made to develop 3D printed ABS substrate and electroless coatings will be deposited on the samples. The characterization of the coatings will be carried out in terms of surface morphology, corrosion, erosion, adhesion, mechanical properties etc. Again, the plastic waste, especially from PET bottles, is a significant environmental challenge. This project addresses this issue by recycling plastic waste into filaments for 3D printing. The printed products are then enhanced with metallic coatings, such as electroless nickel, to improve their performance. The results will be compared for their suitability in different practical applications. This innovative approach merges sustainable waste management with cutting-edge manufacturing, promoting a circular economy and reducing the environmental footprint.
