Project Overview
Sustainable organic synthesis using readily available and inexpensive starting materials in the pharmaceutical industry and academic research is steadily increasing. There is a high demand for milder and cost-effective synthetic routes, which have traditionally relied on noble transition metal catalysts, such as those used in cross-coupling reactions. Our goal is to develop innovative and sustainable methods for the synthesis of high value-added molecules using sulfonium salts, mediated by bases and inexpensive non-toxic catalysts, utilizing simple and readily accessible material inputs. Specifically, we aim to employ sulfonium salts formed in situ under aerobic conditions for the development of radical and ionic reactions for carbon transfer, oxidative dearomatization, selective functionalization of small molecules, application of developed methods to natural products, and bioconjugation chemistry. We will explore the development of new sustainable processes for novel chemical synthesis routes and reaction methodologies. This innovative approach can be applied to synthesize value-added molecules, facilitate the target synthesis of validated bioactive compounds, and enable the rapid generation of libraries for medicinal chemistry exploration. The developed process will be applied to pharmaceutically relevant molecules and natural products, including commercially active pharmaceutical ingredients, using NIPER facilities. Additionally, we will pursue new process development for technology transfer, focusing on demanding drugs such as tolterodine, tripelennamineed thonzylamine, and thenfadil.
