Project Overview
The project focuses on understanding and developing light-driven molecular motors for application in ion transport across lipid membranes. These artificial motors, categorized mainly as overcrowded alkene-based, hemithioindigo-based, and imine-based, have potential applications in biology, nanotechnology, and materials science. The study emphasizes the importance of designing stable, efficient, and controllable motor-ion systems, especially for biomedical applications. A key aspect highlighted is the need for a systematic computational approach to model and mimic the mechanisms by which these motors facilitate ion movement, which is an area currently limited by incomplete understanding. The project aims to address existing challenges, such as improving motor stability, selectivity, and precise activation with light, particularly within living systems. By advancing this knowledge, we will seek to aid in developing more effective molecular motors, ultimately enhancing ion conduction and opening new avenues for therapeutic and technological innovations.
