Project Overview
Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is an emerging severe viral disease of cattle caused by the lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV), a member of the Capripoxvirus genus of the poxviridae family. LSD is causing a huge economic loss in our country. This disease is transmitted from infected to susceptible cattle through vector(s) - stomoxys flies / Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The transmission events of LSD and pathogenesis with time and between hosts (Cattle and Buffalo) are very poorly understood. Understanding the sources and patterns of disease transmission is key to control an outbreak/disease. Evaluating the genome scale phylogeny across the isolates helps in identifying the mechanisms of cross species transmission and potential modes of transmission. Further, the proteome and transcriptome approach helps in understanding the systems biology behind differential response to disease in hosts. This also helps in understanding the pathogenesis of the diseases with time. This project is taken up to understand the disease transmission pattern in LSD, and the pathogenesis behind nodule formation and differential host response to LSDV in cattle and buffaloes.
