Project Overview
India’s logistics sector plays a pivotal role in its economic growth, supported by various government initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and integration. The National Logistics Policy (NLP) 2022, for instance, targets reducing the logistics cost from 13-14% of GDP to 8%, while the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan emphasizes the development of multimodal logistics parks (MMLPs) to create a unified logistics ecosystem by connecting roads, railways, ports, and airways. This proposal outlines an innovative framework for establishing sustainable, digital twin-enabled MMLPs to optimize India's logistics networks and elevate their performance. A feasibility study will be conducted to identify the most practical locations for MMLPs, ensuring strong connectivity with essential infrastructure like ports, Container Freight Stations (CFSs), and Inland Container Depots (ICDs). Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and advanced optimization models will be employed to provide a data-driven foundation, improving logistics efficiency and accessibility across the country. To enhance trust and security in logistics operations, blockchain technology will be integrated across MMLPs, ports, and logistics centers. This will create a transparent, traceable system to mitigate data breaches and strengthen the ecosystem's integrity. A focus on sustainability will drive the development of a framework combining GIS, simulation models, and optimization techniques to assess and manage carbon emissions in logistics networks. This approach will empower decision-makers to implement environmentally friendly strategies while streamlining operational workflows. Furthermore, a digital twin-enabled, open-access platform will be developed to integrate real-time simulations and analytics for MMLPs, ports, and logistics centers. This dynamic tool will monitor operations, predict challenges, and offer actionable insights for optimization. By simulating end-to-end logistics processes, the platform will enhance efficiency, reduce operational risks, and align with India’s sustainability goals. The expected outcomes of this proposal are transformative. Strategically located MMLPs will reduce transit times and costs, boosting operational efficiency and strengthening India’s position in global trade. Blockchain-based transparency will foster collaboration among stakeholders, while digital twin technology will revolutionize logistics management through real-time insights. By prioritizing sustainability, the proposal will also support green logistics initiatives, contributing to reduced emissions and improved energy efficiency. This comprehensive approach aligns seamlessly with national priorities, positioning India’s logistics sector for a sustainable and competitive future.
