Project Overview
Flood has been a very serious problem in northeast India, such as Assam, which has had a very serious impact on the local population, such as loss of human lives, population displacements, infrastructure damage, water pollution, and other socio-economic effects. It is estimated that around 120 people lost their lives, while 2.4 million people were displaced or affected by the flood in different ways, such as loss of electric power supply, unavailability of drinking water, medical emergency, etc. During a flood, flood relief centers are managed to rescue the flood victims, which facilitate the required lighting, electricity to the critical loads, charging the devices, and communications. The heavy flood can affect the infrastructure, such as roads and the power distribution network. The failure of the electric power network can lead to the unavailability of electricity for lighting, medical emergency equipment for pregnant women, and the elderly in the flood relief center. Therefore, considering the adverse effects of the flood on human lives in flood relief centers every year, it is imperative to explore such a mobile distributed power network that can provide the required electricity in flood-affected regions. Microgrid is one of the solutions for powering the critical loads, i.e., medical equipment for the elderly and pregnant women, water purification unit for drinking water, lighting, and communication. However, the mobility of the microgrid in flood, protection, durability of components, control, plug and play capability are some research challenges to implement the mobile microgrid in flood-affected areas. Therefore, the present study addresses the aforementioned issues in the microgrid application for the flood relief operations. In this research proposal, a mobile microgrid boat is proposed, which can easily move in the flood-affected areas while powering the flood relief center and rescuing the lives of flood victims. The saving of the lives of humans due to floods in northeast India is our motivation, and we proposed a microgrid boat for rescuing the people during such natural disaster events. This is the motivation of this research proposal that focuses on the design and development of an energy-efficient, cost-effective, and durable mobile microgrid boat for the flood relief centers in Northeast India, such as Assam. It is estimated the using efficient power electronic devices, control strategy and system designing, the overall energy efficiency of the microgrid can be enhanced by 5% and its transient response such as voltage and frequency regulation by Based on the modeling results, this method can be helpful in the DC bus regulation (38% improvement) and voltage and frequency control (32% improvement in settling time) of the microgrid as compared to the conventional methods.
