Project Overview

Signal-specific pathway selection empowers biological systems with evolutionary capabilities. Can chemical methods get inspired and display similar attributes? The work in the project aims to unveil the potential of multi-equilibria systems to bridge this gap, creating a unique landscape of reactivity and selectivity. Consequently, we anticipate it will enable a highly selective platform for engineering proteins. The initial investigations validate the proof-of-concept and indicate that the approach could result in carboxylate-targeted protein and antibody bioconjugation. Since carboxylate has been inaccessible for precise and modular engineering in the past, it strengthens the potential of proposed work in establishing new chemical space for bioconjugation. Once we establish three to four new pathways from this perspective, we will extend its potential in biophysical chemistry and biopharmaceuticals.
