About
This proposal aims to develop sustainable, metal-free synthetic methodologies using visible-light photoredox catalysis, with a focus on perylenediimide (PDI) radical anions as versatile photocatalysts. Leveraging the unique redox and photophysical properties of PDIs, the research will explore both single- and multiphoton excitation strategies to activate challenging substrates. Key transformations include oxidative aminopyridylation, cross-redox coupling (CRC) for ester and amide synthesis, and the generation of bioactive lactam frameworks. In addition, the synthesis of glycine betaine derivatives in aqueous media will be pursued to demonstrate green and biologically relevant chemistry. The mechanistic and spectroscopic investigation of the catalytic cycle will guide the design of efficient catalytic systems for light-driven C–N and C–C bond-forming reactions.
