Project Overview

Dental pathogens are bacteria and other microbes that can cause damage to teeth and infections in the mouth and beyond. Dental pathogens can cause a variety of infections, including dental caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, sepsis and many more. Dental caries is one of the most prevalent diseases in children and adults. Though dental caries is a preventable disease, the high incidence demands effective diagnostic and therapeutic measurements. From a microbiological point of view, Streptococcus mutans have been considered a significant pathogen in the development of caries. S. mutans infections associated with dental caries are prevented by using antimicrobial agents. The application of antibiotics for the treatment of dental caries would be harmful for the patients and the development of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains of bacteria is also possible. Hence, this proposal focuses on developing Surface-Charge engineered green Nanoemulsions for Interkingdom mediated dental caries. Surface-Charge engineered green Nanoemulsions incorporated oral hygiene products can be developed to combat dental caries causing multidrug-resistant organisms. Key words: Surface-Charged, Engineered green Nanoemulsions, Dental caries, Streptococcus mutans, Multidrug-resistant organisms, Oral hygiene products
