Project Overview

The proposed project will develop a sustainable solar powered wastewater treatment system for schools. The proposed system will incorporate cost effective and reliable online water quality monitoring to ensure the quality of treated wastewater, thus preventing the health risk associated with reuse of unsafe water. The main goal of the project is to improve the hygiene and sanitation conditions of schools in water stressed areas, thus improving the health and reducing the number of school dropouts. Major deliverables are: i) Treatment process for specific type of wastewater. ii) Low cost, but reliable sensors for online monitoring of treated wastewater quality. iii) Wastewater treatment and reuse units with all devices in at least two schools. iv) Design guidelines and operation and maintenance manual.
