Project Overview
Incremental Sheet Forming (ISF) is a dieless sheet metal forming technique. This work proposes development of a technology that integrates Adaptive Double Sided Incremental Forming (AdDSIF) strategies with Ultrasonic Vibration-assisted ISF (UVaISF) to enhance process capabilities. The developed technology would be realized with the help of a novel and one of a kind machine tool, exclusively designed and fabricated for the purpose. Suitable CAD/CAM/CAE tools based on process mechanics would be developed to implement the proposed forming strategies. The methodology would provide a geometry independent solution.
With AdDSIF, the double sided tool path adapts to different geometrical attributes of a given component and facilitates forming with improved structural accuracy, surface finish and process formability. Further, UVaISF improves material characteristics by influencing microstructural phenomena of deformation. The proposal envisions the coupling of AdDSIF and UVaISF to facilitate forming of complex shapes from metal sheets with better part quality.
