About
Bimetallic sheet components (both micro and macro sized) have potential application in many industries such as consumer electronics, telecommunication, micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS), heating components, structures used in aerospace and defence sectors.
However, the bimetals developed by the existing manufacturing processes (roll boding, cladding etc.) shows: (i) poor interfacial bonding, (ii) lower mechanical strength and (iii) unfavourable anisotropy arising due to texture while processing of bimetals.
In order to address the aforementioned challenges, the present proposal aims to establish novel manufacturing routes to (i) develop ultra-fine grained bimetallic sheets and (ii) manufacture micro deep drawn bimetallic components with ultrafine grained microstructure. These ultra-fine grained bimetallic sheets will be beneficial for production of components both by macro and microforming. Due to its nanometric/ultrafine grain size, such sheets can possibly tackle the ‘size effect’ related material abnormability and show improved microformability.
