Project Overview

Burden of TB in India is well known and demands immediate attention. The major problems are poor referral systems, tracking of defaulters, real time updates on DOTS, disconnected health centers and hence delayed information reach to health administrators. They lead to delayed preventive measures and ineffective implementation of government initiatives which results in low-quality TB care. This project will develop an ICT ecosystem to curb menance of TB through 3 components (a) centralized web & mobile phone based information system for health administrators (b) SMS based service for patients/health workers to update DOTS consumption in real-time (c) audio-visual animation and video based training modules for DOTS providers. This proposal will connect health centers, help administrators to gather patient data, track them in real time, monitor DOTS consumption and enable timely preventive care. Field trials for 1-year will be conducted in Kamrup, Assam to investigate its effectiveness and overall impact. This project is in collaboration with State TB Cell, Government of Assam.
