About
Thermal efficiency of the commercial LPG cooking stoves is low and their emissions are very high. Utilizing the concept of porous medium combustion, PI research team at IIT Guwahati has developed energy efficient LPG cooking stoves with porous radiant burner (PRB). Their thermal efficiencies are about 15-40% higher and CO and NOx emissions are much lower than their respective commercial stoves. Considering the domestic LPG consumption in India, stoves with PRB save about Rs. 8000 cr per year. These burners are cheap and environment friendly. In this project, 100 LPG cooking stoves with PRB for domestic and industrial applications and 50 kerosene stoves with PRB for domestic applications will be designed and fabricated. Feedback on safety and adopting the PRB technology will be taken from users. Detailed life cycle assessment study will be carried out. For market penetration, technical workshops will be organised in different parts of India.
