North-East Institute of Science & Technology (NEIST)
Project Overview
CSIR-NEIST has done considerable work on development of distillation plant suited to local conditions in North eastern region. The process involves steam distillation suitable for extraction of essential oils from oil bearing leaves, grass etc. Production of essential oils of citronella, lemongrass, patchouli, geranium, palmarosa, etc. will play an important role in export promotion. The organized cultivation of these non-traditional crops and extraction of oil from these crops will give impetus to the rural population in providing employment/self employment and revenue generation.
