Project Overview

Carbon-Silicon Carbide is considered as an ideal material for future ThermoStructural applications, considering the various advantages offered by the material. SiC matrix is derived presently using Methyl-Trichlo-Silane, having drawbacks in due to high corrosive nature of the chemical and by-products of chlorides which are formed during the process. To meet the future requirements of C-SiC composites and also to provide SiC coating over Carbon-Carbon Composite products for various space applications, it is envisaged to use Mono Methyl Silane (MMS) as precursor for Chemical Vapour Infiltration/Deposition method. MMS is considered to be advantageous compared to other MTCS and Silane precursors, considering the chemical nature (Low Molecular Weight), processing under low temperature (~800?C) and being less hazardous, non corrosive and non toxic.
