Many critical components are made through casting route. Complex castings get few unacceptable defects which are to be repaired through welding. It is necessary to locate the defect precisely in the wall of the casting to avoid unnecessary gouging. Ultrasonic technique can be very effective in this regards. But due to cast structure low frequency probes only can be used. Also response of the cast material is not good to Ultrasonic testing. Considering these limitations a suitable technique/procedure is to be developed for defect detection using UT.
