About
Spacecraft mechanisms require many types of electro-mechanical (EM) drives where continuous, intermittent, forward and reverse motion is needed for multiple operations. These EM drives are typically used for the steering and pointing of Antenna, deployment and rotation of various appendages like reflectors, Cameras, Solar panels etc. These drives invariably use Motors as the driving element. The commonly used motors for space application are Stepper motors and Brushless DC (BLDC) motors.
