Project Overview
The study reports the isolation, identification and confirmation of ESBL E. coli and K. Pneumonia from soil samples collected from different hospital environments and molecular characterization of these strains by identifying the resistant genes blaTEM, blaSHV and blaCTXM genes and their epidemiological typing by phylogenetic analysis. The rapid detection of resistant genes by Real Time PCR method enable quick confirmation of ESBL’s than conventional phenotypic methods. The resistant genes may transfer from place to place due to the transfer of plasmids from one microorganism to other and also to different places. It could be more extensively studied on these antibiotic genes to determine the magnitude of the problem of antibiotic resistance existing in the environment.
