Project Overview

Objective: To understand the tectonic and magmatic processes at the slow-spreading mid-oceanic ridges in the Indian Ocean based on geophysical mapping. To study the role of detachment faults and oceanic core complexes on the evolution of ocean floor formed at the slow-spreading mid-oceanic ridges in the Indian Ocean. Delineation of the active hydrothermal plumes and vent fields associated with polymetallic sulphide mineralizations on the slow-spreading mid-oceanic ridges in the Indian Ocean. Characterization of the active hydrothermal vents to understand the nature of volcanic and hydrothermal cycles. To understand the nature and characteristics of the hydrothermal vents hosted at basaltic and ultramafic host rocks. To understand biogeochemical processes associated with hydrothermal mineralization and deep sea ecosystem functioning.
