Objective: Understanding the essential and basic physiological processes in bacteria . Examining the cell walls and cell wall hydrolases of beneficial gut microbes (probiotics) . Characterization of their cell walls Deciphering the role of PG synthases and hydrolases in these organisms. Examine the growth and division of these microbes. Characterization of PG hydrolases. Construction of mutants deleted for the hydrolases and mutant analysis. Examining the role of hydrolases in conferring protection to the host system.
