About

Objective: WP 1: Synthesis of novel mitochondria targeted compounds of either synthetic or natural product origin using different side-chain linkers and evaluation of their efficacy on mitochondrial bioenergetics and biogenesis pathways in neuronal cells. WP 2: Systematic evaluation of mitochondria targeted compounds for their ability to confer protection in appropriate cellular models of PD and AD. WP 3: Toxicity and cerebral permeability studies of lead compounds. WP 4: Evaluation of therapeutic potential of lead compounds in appropriate AD and PD mouse models. The current paradigm of drug discovery follows a simple principle, that a small molecule with appreciable specificity with minimum off-target affects and bioavailability.
