Project Overview

Objective: The specific objectives of the proposed project are: Development of Ceramic (PZT)/Polymer (PVDF) tapes having the following specifications: ? Thickness of the film ~ 0.5 -0.8 mm ? Dimension of the film : 100 mm x100 mm ? Piezoelectric coefficient (d33) ~ 30 pc/N Testing as sonar sensors and optimizing their maximum sensitivity. Design and fabrication of packaged hydrophone for supply to end user.

Summary: An indigenous technology to fabricate PZT/PVDF tapes as sonar sensors has already been developed. Films (50 x 50 mm) of thickness (~0.5 mm) exhibiting piezoelectric coefficient (d33) ~ 18 pc/N were fabricated and supplied to NPOL for testing. The response of the sensors was satisfactory but further enhancement in sensing property is desired. Hence, sensors exhibiting higher piezoelectric coefficient is required. Therefore, the proposed FTT project will focus on developing sonar sensors with high sensitivity. The composites (~100 x 100 mm) exhibiting d33 ~30 pc/N for application as flank array sensors will be developed.
