The Wispering Gallery Modes (WGMs) are observed in symmetric dielectric micro-cavities WGM microresonators provide a versatile platform for fundamental research and light-based applications. WGM-based microresonators are used as sensors, add-drop filters, cavities for nonlinear optical processes, and to explore cavity Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) effects such as Rabi splitting and Purcell enhancement. The position and the width of these resonances are sensitive to the size, shape and refractive index of the object acting as a cavity.
