About

Unitized Regenerative Fuel Cells (URFC) are devices that can act both as electrolyzer and fuel cells. They utilize the off-peak electricity for hydrogen production and convert the same into electricity during peak demand. This project aims at the development and characterisation of URFC technology that is based on High-Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membranes (HTPEM). The specific objectives include: a) evaluating the stability of Aquivion and composites of Aquivion for URFC operation. b) evaluating the activity of PtIrO2 catalyst for Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR) and Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER). c) evaluating the corrosion resistance of graphitic carbon and carbon nanotubes as catalyst support for operation under electrolysis mode. d) electrochemical characterization of the single cell under fuel cell and electrolysis mode.
