About
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) have been used in clinical research for decades, but their true potential has not been fully realized due to donor involvement and the rarity of stem cell populations in bone marrow. Alternative sources like pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) and umbilical cord blood (UCB) have been explored, but challenges remain. Ex vivo expansion of engraftable HSC populations could broaden their use. Researchers are studying cell-intrinsic and -extrinsic regulatory factors and examining the impact of signaling events on HSC function.
