About
The study uses a Drosophila model of Spinocerebellar Ataxia 8 to understand the molecular genetics of the disorder. RNA binding proteins (RBPs) like muscleblind, split ends, staufen, and spoonbill are identified as potential modulators. Spoonbill RBP, with a KH RNA binding domain, suppresses SCA8-associated neurodegeneration and motor problems. The researchers plan to explore the mechanisms of SCA8 pathogenesis and their implications for other disorders like myotonic dystrophy using Drosophila models.
